Malinda's Table

I love the High Holidays, both Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur, despite being a devout atheist, because they herald in Autumn, my favorite time of year.  To religious people it’s the year 5778.  I have no idea why, as I must have missed that lesson in Hebrew School, which I attended as a child.  Given that the universe is 13 billion years old and man has walked the earth for 70,000 of those years, the many calendars of the world’s cultures are an interesting piece of folklore.  Anyway, the Jewish New Year allows me to renew my sense of appreciation for my family and friends, and express hope we are all “written in the book” for the coming year.
